He was released so I’m sure he’s still down there and bigger than ever. All I know is he was big enough that I’ll never forget him. I figured I must be into a GIANT Rooster to drag me that far and make that may runs. I was on that fish for a good 15-20 minutes and I bet he dragged me nearly half a mile. I was dubious if anything would take him but it wasn’t 5 minutes before that clicker started counting off. Seriously, I bet he weighed a good four or five pounds and was bigger than a football. No bridle, just stuck it through the upper lip.
That particular morning was a bit slow though so when I jigged up a big black Tuna after a few hours I thought “F*** it” and threw him behind me on a circle hook. I fish lures and jigs exclusively because I enjoy it and I’ve never had any problem getting all the good fish I want on artificial. It’s a great fishery and I always do well there but I had no idea what kind of monster I was going to hook into when I pedalled out that morning. I had taken a 4 hour trip up north to fish at one of my buddy’s local spots.
